    Article summary

Iec102Client allows users to quickly and easily connect to any electrical meter supporting IEC60870-5-102 (REE) protocol. Connection to the meter can be made through a serial port, Ethernet converter or even through the meter’s own optical port.

Iec102Client is an out-of-the-box solution that can communicate with all meters that are compatible with IEC60870-5-102 (REE) protocol, without any customization or brand dependent configuration. Examples of compatible electrical meters include the following (among many others):

    • Landis+Gyr.
    • Itron (former Actaris).
    • Circutor.
    • ZIV.
    • Orbis.

Iec102Client is easy to set-up, configure, and manage. Users will only be required to configure a small set of parameters in order to establish communication to the meter:

    • Communication parameters for optical and serial ports (baudrate, data bits, parity and stop bits). IP address for Ethernet connections.
    • Link address assigned to the meter.
    • Point address assigned to the meter.
    • Read-only password assigned to the meter.

This information can be obtained from the meter by navigating through the display menu to reach the following sections, usually located under entries Info/L45 Comms and Info/L46 identifiers:

    • L45: Communication parameters
      • 0.00.0: Optical port configuration (speed and format).
      • 0.00.1: First serial port configuration (speed and format).
      • 0.00.2: Second serial port configuration, if available (speed and format).
    • L46: Identifiers
      • 0.00.5: Link address (a number between 0 and 65535).
      • 0.00.6: Point address (a number between 0 and 65535).

The table below shows the default parameters used by some utilities:

    UtilitySerial ConfLink Addr.Point Addr.Read-only Pass.
    Iberdrola9600-8N1Last 5 digits of the meter ID17
    Endesa9600-8E1Last 5 digits of the meter ID11
    Naturgy9600-8N1111
    Viesgo9600-8N1111
    Note:
Some meters may not permit simultaneous communication with optical and serial ports. In this instance, communication to the meter may fail if both ports are used at the same time. By using the gateway functionality included in the Iec102Client, the same port may be shared between several applications.

Iec102Client permits continuous reading of the current values for the following signals:

    • Energy: Active imported (kWh)
    • Energy: Active exported (kWh)
    • Energy: Reactive Q1 (kVArh)
    • Energy: Reactive Q2 (kVArh)
    • Energy: Reactive Q3 (kVArh)
    • Energy: Reactive Q4 (kVArh)
    • Power: Active total (kW)
    • Power: Reactive total (kVAr)
    • Power: Power factor total
    • Power: Active phase 1 (kW)
    • Power: Reactive phase 1 (kVAr)
    • Power: Power factor phase 1
    • Power: Active phase 2 (kW)
    • Power: Reactive phase 2 (kVAr)
    • Power: Power factor phase 2
    • Power: Active phase 3 (kW)
    • Power: Reactive phase 3 (kVAr)
    • Power: Power factor phase 3
    • V-I: Current phase 1 (A)
    • V-I: Voltage phase 1 (V)
    • V-I: Current phase 2 (A)
    • V-I: Voltage phase 2 (V)
    • V-I: Current phase 3 (A)
    • V-I: Voltage phase 3 (V)
    Note:
The driver reads real-time values only. Access to the Load Profile is not supported.
