Connection to the meter can be made through a serial port, Ethernet converter or even through the meter’s own optical port." updated: 2024-02-05T18:53:30Z published: 2024-02-05T18:53:30Z canonical: "docs.n3uron.com/iec-102-client-examples" --- > ## Documentation Index > Fetch the complete documentation index at: https://docs.n3uron.com/llms.txt > Use this file to discover all available pages before exploring further. # Examples ## Connecting to an IEC-102 Meter Through an Ethernet to Serial Converter Configured as a TCP Server: In this example, **IEC 102 Client** is used to connect to a meter through a TCP connection. The configuration will include creating a gateway in order to permit the Utility to connect to the meter and download the load profile. - **Step 1:** Create a module instance: (Config => Modules => button to the left of Modules => New module) ![Figure - New module(1)](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%20-%20New%20module(1).png) - **Step 2:** Provide a name for the module, in this case IEC102Client, set the module type to Iec102Client, and configure the new module as shown below. ![Figure - New module(2)](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%20-%20New%20module(2).png) - **Step 3:** Set the **API** and **Logger** configuration to default. Next, it's time to configure the module to establish which networks will be able to establish communication. - **Step 4:** Create a new **Channel** and enter the **Host** and **TCP** port of your energy meter.![Figure 8 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%208%20-%201.21.5.png) - **Step 5:** Now, let's create and configure a **Gateway** for allowing and prioritizing the connection from the Utility as well as preventing collisions. ![Figure 10 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%2010%20-%201.21.5.png) ![Figure 11 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%2011%20-%201.21.5.png) - **Step 6:** Once the **Gateway** is configured, let's add a new **Device**. Every **Device** requires both a **Link address** and a **Point address,** which can usually be obtained from the energy meter display. ![Figure 12 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%2012%20-%201.21.5.png) **![Figure 13 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%2013%20-%201.21.5.png)** - **Step 7:** Create and configure some tags to retrieve the data provided by the meter. Refer to this link for more detailed information on [creating tags](https://docs.n3uron.com/v121/docs/platform-creating-tags). ![Figure 7 - 1.21.5](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%207%20-%201.21.5.png) - **Step 8:** The tags should be now available and displayed with good quality in the **Real-Time** display panel. ![Figure - IEC 2](https://cdn.document360.io/54093ab5-6b22-4542-a265-04377931f11a/Images/Documentation/Figure%20-%20IEC%202.png) [](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/caiso-ads/)[](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/caiso-ads/)[IEC 102 Full Product Details](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/iec-102-client/)[](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/caiso-ads/)[](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/caiso-ads/)
