# Introduction

[**IEC 104 Client**](https://n3uron.com/iiot-platform-modules/iec-104-client/) allows users to quickly and easily connect to any intelligent electronic devices (IEDs), RTUs, controllers, and gateways that adhere to the **IEC 60870-5-104** protocol. As an integrated part of the IEC Telecontrol Equipment and Systems Standard **IEC 60870-5,** the **IEC 104** facilitates seamless communication, specifically tailored for transmitting telecontrol messages within electric power system automation.

**IEC 104 Client** is easy to set up, configure, and manage. Users only need to configure a small set of parameters to establish communication with the device and start real-time data exchange with the N3uron node. This data can then be made available to other systems through any of the **Data Delivery** modules implemented within the N3uron platform, such as [MQTT](/v121/docs/mqtt-client-introduction), [OPC UA Server](/v121/docs/opc-ua-server-introduction), [Sparkplug](/v121/docs/sparkplug-client-introduction), [REST API Server](/v121/docs/rest-api-server-introduction), [Notifier](/v121/docs/notifier-introduction), etc.

Some of the key features of the module include:

- Cyclic, background scan, and polled reads.
- Direct Execute for write operations.
- General and Group Interrogation.
- Support for common ASDUs (please refer to the [Appendix](/v121/docs/iec-104-client-appendix) to check the list of Supported ASDUs).
- Unlimited connections: Multi-channel support.
- Unlimited tags.
